New NBER Website

Dear Research Colleagues –

This morning, the NBER launched a new website.  It features a responsive
design that supports all  screen sizes, easy integration of photos and
videos, new resources for communicating the research findings associated
with NBER-based grants and research projects, and a new portal – MyNBER
– to support affiliated researchers’ many interactions with the NBER.
The new site offers improved searchability and transparency within
various types of content, including working papers, books, conferences,
and videos.  It also allows three free working paper downloads per year
per IP address, so an occasional visitor who is searching for a recent
working paper but does not have an institutional subscription will no
longer encounter the paywall that otherwise applies to papers
distributed in the last 18 months.

The MyNBER page collects features designed to support working paper
submissions, conference participation, and a range of other functions.
Any logged-in user can access MyNBER by clicking on the “Welcome, Name”
link in the upper right hand corner of every page.  MyNBER enables users
to view their profile information, complete various training
requirements, submit working papers, and find forms that are needed for
administering grants or requesting reimbursements.

To facilitate the transition to the new site, a summary of how to find
some of our most widely viewed content, such as working papers,
conferences, and information about affiliates, may be found at
https://www.nber.org/welcome.
Several members of the NBER staff were  indispensable  in making the
transition to the new website.  Alex Aminoff, David Jan, Alterra Milone,
Debby Nicholson, Charlie Radin, Inna Shapiro, and Kevin Tasley have been
working for more than three years on this project.  We owe a great debt
to Tim Grady, our consulting project manager, who has provided
invaluable technical and process design expertise.  This was an
extraordinary team effort, and I am very grateful to everyone who
contributed.

I hope that you will share your reactions – positive or negative – to
the new website, and help us to improve its functionality. Please send
comments to webmaster_at_nber.org.   Thank you!

Jim Poterba
