Dear NBER Affiliates -

I hope that you are staying safe during this extraordinary time.

I am writing for two reasons.  First, the NBER is in the late stages of
a long-overdue website redesign.  The new site will launch later this
spring, and unlike the old site, it will allow us to display
researchers' photos on their NBER home pages.  There is no requirement
for a photo, but if you would like us to include a picture on your NBER
page, please send a high-resolution photo to Shaniah Lindsey,
shaniahl_at_nber.org.  Please use "Photo - Your Name" as the subject line.
To maintain our production schedule, please send your photo by Monday,
April 6.

Second, I have been very impressed by the number of economists who have
redirected their research programs in the last few weeks to tackle
questions that are raised by the Covid-19 pandemic and to generate
research findings that can inform policy responses to it.  I have spoken
to a number of research funders, notably at NSF and NIH, who recognize
the unique nature of the current situation.  They understand the
potential value of launching timely and targeted projects that involve
data collection or other research initiatives motivated by the pandemic
and the economic disruption that it has created.  If you are trying to
undertake a project and to secure funding in the very near term, the
NBER grant administration team, working remotely, is available to assist
you.  Please reach out to our Director of Research and Grants
Management, Alterra Milone (alterra_at_nber.org), or to me, to discuss
potential projects and the set of funders who might be able to support
your work.

All best wishes for remaining healthy, connected, and productive during
this time of social distancing.
