SLOAN RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS in ECONOMICS
Every year, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation awards $50,000 to each of eight early-career economists. These funds can be used for any research-related purposes and are not tied to a particular project, paper, or investigation.
Sloan Research Fellowships honor scholars of outstanding promise. Of the nineteen young economists who have won the John Bates Clark Medal since 1983, fourteen were former Sloan Research Fellows, including every winner since 2007.
Candidates must be nominated either by their department chair or by another senior researcher in their field. This year, the economics selection committee consists of Esther Duflo, Jonathan Levin, and Robert Shimer. Results will be announced in February 2015.
Eligible candidates must hold a tenure track position at an degree-granting institution in the U.S. or Canada, and normally should have received their Ph.D. on or after September 1, 2008. Consistent with the Foundations tradition of supporting diversity in science generally and economics in particular, Sloan especially welcomes the nomination of women and underrepresented minorities.
Early-career economists who wish to be considered are encouraged to discuss the nomination process with senior colleagues. Attached is a brochure containing information about eligibility requirements and submission procedures. For more details, including a list of past fellows, please visit the Sloan Foundation website at www.sloan.org/fellowships<http://www.sloan.org/fellowships> or e-mail researchfellows@sloan.org<mailto:researchfellows@sloan.org>.
The deadline for nominations this year is Monday, September 15, 2014.
