Dear NBER Researchers -

You may have learned from an email earlier this week that the American
Economic Association has launched**a registry for randomized controlled
trials (RCTs). The goals of the registration process, which follows
similar procedures in medical research, are to provide a centralized
source of information about these trials that may be helpful for
meta-analysis and to increase the visibility and transparency associated
with RCTs in economics. While registration is voluntary, the NBER will
encourage it by providing a reminder about the registry when RCT-based
projects are submitted for review by our Institutional Review Board
(IRB). The registration site is already available at
https://www.socialscienceregistry.org/ While the plan is to register new
RCTs before they are launched, the registry also welcomes information
about completed or currently active projects.

Thank you for supporting this new component of economics research
infrastructure. All best wishes for the holiday season.
