Dear NBER Researchers, Board Members, and Staff -

I hope that you will join me in congratulating Research Associates
Peter Diamond and Dale Mortensen, who today were named as recipients of
the 2010 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences along with Christopher
Pissarides of the London School of Economics. The prize recognizes
their contributions to the "analysis of markets with search frictions."
The prize citation notes that "the laureates' models help us understand
the ways in which unemployment, job vacancies, and wages are affected by
regulation and economic policy." It continues by observing that "search
theory has also been used to study questions related to monetary theory,
public economics, financial economics, regional economics, and family
economics."

Peter is an Institute Professor at MIT. He has been a Research
Associate in the Economic Fluctuations and Growth (EFG) and Public
Economics programs since 1991. Dale is the Ida C. Cook Professor of
Economics at Northwestern University, and a Research Associate in the
EFG program, which he joined in 2005.

      All best wishes.

Jim
