Dear Family Members -
I hope that you will join me in congratulating, and extending our very best wishes to, NBER
Research Associates Christy Romer and Larry Summers, who as I am sure you learned yesterday have
been tapped to lead the Council of Economic Advisers and the National Economic Council in
President Barack Obama's administration. I am sure that both Christy and Larry will waste no
time in putting to good use many of the insights that they have gleaned from NBER activities
through the years. Christy has been a co-director of the NBER's Monetary Economics (ME) Program
and a member of the Business Cycle Dating Committee. We agreed this morning that she would step
down immediately from both of those roles. David Romer will continue to serve as Director of the
ME program. All best wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving and a productive end to the fall
semester.
