Postdoctoral Fellowships at the European University Institute,
Florence (Italy)

The deadline for applications for the academic year 2009-2010 is 25
October 2008

Max Weber Fellowships

Max Weber Programme (http://www.eui.eu/MaxWeberProgramme/) is the
largest post-doctoral programme in the Social Sciences. It is now in
its third year and there are 44 Max Weber Fellows (+ 6 visiting
fellows), 11 of whom are economists at the start of their academic
career. Most of them are here for one year. A similar number of
fellowships will be offered this year in economics. In the first two
years of the program all economists in the job market have found
interesting academic jobs.

The programme is especially interesting for

a) finishing PhD students who want to postpone going onto the
market for one year, and

b) those who have already a position, have finished their PhD
within the last five years, and are able to take the advantage of one
year off.

Both groups can benefit from an extra year of concentration on their
research and also from improving their academic skills (communication,
written and spoken, teaching and tutoring, if needed, etc.), in an
active and stimulating multidisciplinary research environment. There
are no restrictions on nationality or field of specialization. Fellows
are selected on the basis of their research accomplishments and
potential, their academic career interests, and the availability of
the EUI faculty to provide mentorship.

The first round of offers will be made at the beginning of November,
some time before the active economist job market opens. Nevertheless,
even if a candidate would like to be considered later (say, in March),
s/he should apply now, with the idea of being considered at a later
time, in the case that there are still available fellowships.

For more information on how to apply please see: http://www.eui.eu/Servac/Postdoctoral/MaxWeberFellowships/

Jean Monnet Fellowships

Through its Jean Monnet Fellowship Programme the Robert Schuman Centre
for Advanced Studies offers yearly approximately 20 fellowships to
post-docs in an early stage of their academic career. During their
stay at the RSCAS, fellows work on a research topic that fits well in
the overall research profile of the RSCAS (http://www.eui.eu/RSCAS/Research/
) and participate in the academic life of the Centre and of the EUI.
Each fellow is assigned a professorial mentor.

Jean Monnet Fellowships are for 1 year and are open to candidates who
have received a doctorate within the last 7 years. The main criteria
during the selection procedure are the CV, the overall scientific
quality of the proposal, and the fit of the proposal with the research
programme of the Centre.
