Be a part of the team that provides confidential, nonpartisan, and
authoritative, legislative research analysis and information services to
the U.S. Congress. Congressional Research Service staff work directly
with Members of Congress and congressional committees on public policy
issues ranging from domestic social policy to international affairs,
environmental policy to public finance, and science and technology
policy to constitutional law. The CRS team contributes to an informed
national legislature as it considers policy issues of importance to the
American people.

Located within the Library of Congress, steps from the U.S. Capitol, CRS
offers a collegial work environment and a place where you can grow
professionally through training and professional development programs.

The Domestic Social Policy Division of the Congressional Research
Service is seeking a Specialist in Aging Policy. The specialist will
increase awareness and understanding of aging-related policy issues
through empirically based research and briefings that will assist the
U.S. Congress in interpreting the interactions of the highly
interrelated aspects of aging policy --- economics, demography, social
processes, and health. In addition to basic social research on the aging
process and the attributes and needs of older people, the specialist
will analyze the demographic, economic, or social implications of an
aging society, as well as aspects of current law and the impact of
legislative proposals. The specialist will contribute to a broad range
of studies associated with public and private aspects of an aging
society. Examples of some studies include: consequences of changes in
the demographic (including disability status) characteristics of the
aging population; economic interrelationships between federal programs
(such as Social Security) and private retirement and pension savings for
income security; the role of the federal and state governments and the
private sector in the delivery, quality assurance, and financing of
services for the elderly (health, long-term care, income support); and
innovative strategies for harnessing the capabilities of the older
population for extended labor force participation, community
volunteerism, or grand-parenting roles.

Candidates with a background in one or more social science and/or health
science disciplines (demography, economics, epidemiology, gerontology,
public health or sociology) who have led or worked collaboratively with
multidisciplinary teams researching and analyzing policy implications of
an aging population are encouraged to apply.

Duties include providing objective, expert public policy analysis and
consultation to congressional committees, Members, and staff; including
preparing objective, non-partisan, and innovative analytical studies on
public policy issues of national or international significance;
providing personal assistance as a national expert on public policy
issues throughout the legislative process, including analyzing,
appraising, and evaluating legislative proposals; and planning and
leading multidisciplinary team research projects and seminars.

The Congressional Research Service, within the Library of Congress, is
part of the Legislative Branch of the Federal government. As such, all
positions are in the excepted service.
