Dear Staff Colleagues -
I am writing with the exciting news that our IT director search has
reached a successful conclusion. Erin Richardson, who is currently the
Director of Technology Support Services at Wellesley College, will be
joining the NBER on Monday, February 28, as our new Director of
Information Technology. Erin has an extraordinary record of managing a
wide range of IT services, and her experience will be invaluable as she
learns about the many dimensions of the NBER's IT footprint. I am
confident that her talent and energy will be great assets in advancing
the NBER's mission, and I look forward to working with her. I hope to
be able to introduce her during our staff meeting.
I am very grateful to all of our IT team members, the other staff
members who spoke with our external search firm and with our short list
of finalists, and especially to Alterra, who was actively engaged
throughout the search, for all their help in this process. Our
dedication and hard work paid off!
As we prepare for the upcoming transition, I must acknowledge Dan
Feenberg's outstanding service in leading the NBER's IT department for
more than four decades. Dan's contributions have been remarkable in
their scope and impact. He introduced the first desktop personal
computer to the NBER in the early 1980s (!), played a critical role in
supporting work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic, and oversaw the
development of our modern IT structure in between. When the pandemic
recedes and we can celebrate Dan's extraordinary contributions in
person, we will be sure to do so. But for today, please join me for a
resounding "Thank you, Dan!"
I look forward to seeing you at our staff meeting at 11am on
