Dear NBER Board Members, Researchers, and Staff Members -

Please join me in congratulating six NBER researchers who have been
honored by the American Economic Association (AEA).

Isaiah Andrews of Harvard University is this year's winner of the
John Bates Clark Medal.  Andrews has made path-breaking contributions in
econometric theory and in the application of empirical methods in
applied economics.  His research has provided new tools for assessing
the sensitivity of parameter estimates to data inputs, explored the role
of publication bias and suggested ways to correct for it in evaluating
reported research findings, and analyzed the problem of weak
identification in econometric models.  The prize citation notes that he
is "playing a key role in the recent turn of econometrics back toward
the study of the most important problems faced in empirical research."
Andrews is a Research Associate in the NBER Labor Studies Program.  The
full citation for his award may be found at

Three of the AEA's four new Distinguished Fellows are also NBER
researchers.  Alan Auerbach, a leading scholar in public finance and
applied macroeconomics, is the Robert D. Burch Professor of Economics
and Law at the University of California, Berkeley, where he also directs
the Burch Center for Tax Policy and Public Finance.  He is a Research
Associate in the NBER Economic Fluctuations and Growth (EFG) and Public
Economics Programs.  Anne Case, who has made pioneering contributions in
development economics, health economics, and related fields, is the
Alexander Stewart 1886 Professor of Economics and Public Affairs at
Princeton University.  Reflecting her wide-ranging research, she is a
Research Associate in the NBER Aging, Children, Development, Education,
Health Care, and Public Economics Programs.  Robert Townsend, an
outstanding economic theorist and development economist, is the
Elizabeth and James Killian Professor of Economics at MIT.  He is a
Research Associate in the NBER Development Economics and EFG Programs.

Two of this year's Foreign Honorary Members are also NBER
affiliates.  Per Krusell of Stockholm University, a very influential
macro-economist, is a Research Associate in the EFG Program, and Manuel
Trajtenberg of Tel Aviv University, a key contributor to research on
innovation and patents, is a Research Associate in the Productivity,
Innovation, and Entrepreneurship Program.
