NBER-CES Manufacturing Industry DatabaseRandy A. Becker and Wayne B. GrayMay 2009Updated Data 1958-2005 - SIC and NAICS versions This database is a joint effort between the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and U.S. Census Bureau's Center for Economic Studies (CES), containing annual industry-level data on output, employment, payroll and other input costs, investment, capital stocks, TFP, and various industry-specific price indexes. This page contains the "beta test" version of the data updated through 2005, inc luding the change in industry definitions from SIC to NAICS in 1997. We've done some data checking, but please let us know if you notice any problems , so that we can fix them in the "final version" (due out later this summer - check back for updates). The database covers all 4-digit SIC (and 6-digit NAICS) manufacturing industries from 1958-2005, in two versions: 1987 SIC codes (459 industries) and 1997 NAICS codes (473 industries). The NBER-CES Manufacturing Industry Database (1958-2005) (note that some industries enter or leave manufacturing in 1997 when the industr y code changed from SIC to NAICS, so some industry's observations are missing for 1958-1996 or 1997-2005) 1987 SIC version: Stata SAS dBase Excel ASCII comma-delimited 1997 NAICS version: Stata SAS dBase Excel ASCII comma-delimited We ask that you please not forward this data on to others. Instead, please refer interested parties to this website. This ensures that everyone receives the latest version of the data that's available.
