Census U.S. Intercensal County Population Data, 1970-2006

The Census Bureau's Population Estimates Program publishes population estimates each year at http://www.census.gov/popest/estimates.php

The 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000-2006 files were modified by James Wang to make a single .csv file of county and state intercensal population data that is easier use.

Please note that Alaska is excluded since their county information fluctuates througout the decades.

Spreadsheets and statistical software can read the comma-separated CSV file.
The Stata .dta file can be converted to other formats using conversion software such as Stat/Transfer.

To download files in Internet Explorer, right click on them and select "Save Target As...".
